Atlantis became one of Imagic's most popular game titles, and Dennis Koble's original on the Atari 2600 system remains the proverbial favorite version of the game. Having said that, it would be hard to find another version out there that looks, sounds, and plays as well as this Vic-20 rendition. There will always be something special about the original, but Imagic did an oustanding job with this release, further proving what a great platform the Vic-20 home computer  turned out to be for the handful of Imagic games released for it.

In Atlantis, you take control of the two Sentry Cannons on both ends of the city. You have to fire these cannons at the circling enemy Gorgon ships as they execute their attacks on the city of Atlantis. You have to be quick in order to take these ships out before they're able to get close enough to fire their Deathray Cannons at the various sections of the city. Once they destroy the entire city, the game is over and the escape ship will depart the city.

Much like the Vic-20 version of Dragonfire, Atlantis seems to feel right at home on the Vic-20 computer. The visuals are sharp and detailed and give the game a much more realistic look than the original Atari 2600 game featured. The sound effects also ring out quite well and show a lot of variety. The gameplay is really the only area that this Vic-20 version seems to fall a bit short of the Atari 2600 release. Since there's no center Sentry Cannon, you'll have to learn to use the left and right side cannons if you want to have any success, which makes the game a lot more challenging and playable. This Vic-20 version of Atlantis is easily one of the best releases of the game and is second only to the original Atari 2600 version in terms of overall quality.
