The beautiful city of Atlantis lies deep under the surface of the sea. One day, an evil fleet of Gorgon vessels appear overhead and begin relentlessly bombarding the city with their deathrays. You take control of the Acropolis Command Post, along with the two sentry posts, and you must fire their cannons at the flying Gorgon vessels in the sky above you before they can get close enough to fire their Deathrays.

The game play in Atlantis is fairly straightforward. To fire from the left or right sentry posts, you simply hold the joystick in the direction of the sentry and then press the fire button. Unlike the Atari 2600 version, you don't have a middle sentry to fire from in this Odyssey 2 version of the game. The Gorgon vessels fly across the screen and drop down one level with each pass. If you allow them to reach the surface of the sea, they can then fire their Deathrays and destroy one of the five districts of Atlantis. If you lose all five districts, the game is then over.

The Odyssey 2 version of Atlantis is one of the best overall Odyssey 2 releases, and a fairly decent version of the game. It's not quite as impressive visually as other versions, but the smooth game play is still present, and the sound effects also hold up quite well. The lack of a middle sentry does make the game a bit more difficult, but the added challenge is a nice change of pace from other versions of the game.

Imagic is the only third party game publisher to release games for the Odyssey 2 system in the United States. They released Odyssey 2 versions of both Atlantis and Demon Attack, both of which are two of the best game titles available for the console, and shining examples of just how capable a system the Odyssey 2 computer truly was when in the capable hands of a talented game programmer.
