Dennis Koble's Atlantis is one of Imagic's best games, and while it would be hard to beat his Atari 2600 original, this Atari 8-bit computer version is absolutely amazing. The game play and sound effects are extremely similar to the Atari 2600 version, but this game got a very nice visual makeover and the end result is the best overall version of Atlantis available on any platform.

Your job is to protect the city of Atlantis from the onlsaught of enemy Gorgon Vessels that are trying to fly over the city and destroy it using their Deathray Lasers. You must take control of the three Sentry Cannons and shoot down these Gorgon Vessels before they can reach the ocean's surface and get close enough to fire their Deathrays at the city below. You'll have to be quick, as these Vessels become increasingly faster and more aggressive as the game progresses. You can take the easy way out and use the middle Sentry Cannon to shoot them down, or go for more points by using the left and right Cannons instead. Either way, you're in for the fight of your life.

If you've played the Atari 2600 version of Atlantis, you've basically played this version as well. The play control and sound effects are nearly identical to the point that you'd be hard-pressed to tell the difference between the two. It's the visual upgrade that makes this version a little more attractive. The Gorgon Vessels and Sentry Cannons all look pretty much the same as those found in the Atari 2600 game, but the rock formations that house the city sections of Atlantis are a lot more detailed in this version. It's a small touch, but it's enough to make this version stand out as the best of the Atlantis releases.
If you want to play the best version of the game, this is the game to get.
