Fire Fighter is one of the few exclusive Imagic Atari 2600 titles. It's a little surprising, considering what a great game idea this is and how well it would have translated to many of the other platforms that Imagic released its titles on. It's rumored that an Intellivision version of the game was briefly worked on, but no other information about it exists. Fire Fighter takes the simple idea of fighting fires and turns it into a great gaming experience that's easy to pick up and play, but very tough to put down.

In Fire Fighter, you take on the role of a fireman and you're going to have to use your fire hose to spray water at the fire that's burning its was up the building in front of you. Each time the fire engulfs a floor, the victim that's trapped inside the building will climb to the next floor above him. You'll have to spray the raging fire until it's completely extinguished and the victim can safely drop back to the bottom floor. If you run out of water before the fire is put out, you'll have to quickly use your ladder to reach the victim before he's forced to the top of the building by the fire. The play control might seem overly simple in design, but it makes the game easy to pick up and play and it works very well in creating the illusion of being an actual fire fighter.

Fire Fighter programmer Brad Stewart also programmed Sky Patrol for Imagic, as well as the Atari 2600 VCS versions of Breakout and Asteroids. When Brad first joined Imagic, he found out that the president of Imagic was interested in someone doing a game about bullfighting. Brad took the initiative and went out and got a book on bullfighting. After reading the book, he found bullfighting to be a bit too violent for his own personal taste, so he instead decided to design and create a game around his childhood dream of being a fireman. Brad then took that simple idea and turned it into yet another one of Imagic's unique game titles for the Atari 2600 console.
